An NC Senate committee on May 13 unanimously advanced a bill that which would create the state’s first systematic K-8 math intervention program, modeled on Read to Achieve.

Civil rights leaders and justice organizations urged the Senate to vote in favor of the bill to ensure that voting power would be afforded to residents of D.C., which has a large Black population.

A bill before Congress would give full representation and enfranchisement to residents of Washington. D.C., where Black people make up a majority of the population.
