Obama Hosts India's Prime Minster For First White House State Dinner
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama hosts Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the White House on Tuesday, the first state visit of his presidency.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama welcome the prime minister and his wife with an arrival ceremony on the South Lawn. Obama and Singh then head to the Oval Office for a bilateral meeting. Afterward, the two leaders will hold a joint news conference.
The president meets with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the afternoon in between a meeting with senior advisers and a session with Vice President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Singh and his wife return to the White House in the evening for a state dinner in their honor.
