Brave Rape Victim Confronts Convicted Attacker, “You’re Less Than A Man”
A St. John’s University student stared down her rapist in a Queens courtroom on Thursday, dismissing the convicted thug as a coward before he was sentenced to four decades in prison.
“You are weak,” the 20-year-old woman, her voice steady and sure, told an unnerved James Gillespie. “You are less than a man. Luckily, I’m a strong individual.”
Gillespie deliberately avoided his victim’s glare as she tore into him about the night that still plagues her.
“You are a coward,” she continued. “You do not deserve to walk the streets. … I don’t ever want to see or hear or know about you in society.”

Gillespie was sentenced to 37 to 42 years in prison after the woman recounted her lingering fears, sleepless nights, a reluctance to walk alone and terror of a possible AIDS diagnosis.
