Chicago Honors Legendary Singer Sam Cooke With His Own Street
CHICAGO– The city of Chicago is honoring soul and gospel singer, Sam Cooke, with his own street.
Cooke is originally from Mississippi, but moved to Chicago at a young age. He started off as a gospel singer but began making rhythm and blues music including his hits “You Send Me” and “A Change Gon Come.”

The city of Chicago plans to honor soul singer Sam Cooke with his own street.
City officials will rename a section of 36th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue “Sam Cooke Way” during a Saturday afternoon ceremony. Cooke once lived near the street location in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.
