Obama, America Must Stay Vigilant

Infidel.

It’s what the Christian Right and the Tea Partiers accuse Obama of being: Secret Muslim. Foreigner. Traitor.

It’s also what some in the Muslim world may have branded Obama for failing to adopt the faith of his fathers.

And now that Obama has martyred the Muslim world’s foremost zealot — exasperating his enemies at home and infuriating them abroad — he has become more than ever a target for the rage of those who see their triumphalist worldview being vanquished before their eyes.

Obama, as America’s first Black president, has always required extra vigilance from the team that protects his life; a vigilance that has been found lacking on a number of occasions. After this, he will need double. In fact, we are all marked. All Americans must keep their eyes peeled now for danger. In our airports and on planes. On public transportation and in public spaces. On the streets and in our harbors.

Stay aware. Be safe. We won a milestone victory yesterday, but the War of Worldviews is not over just yet.
