BP Reduces CEO’s Role In Spill Response

BP CEO Tony Hayward is handing over daily responsibility for the company’s response to its massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill to another executive, according to a SkyTv interview with company Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg.
“He is now handing over the operation to (managing director) Bob Dudley,” Svanberg was quoted as saying in a story on SkyTV’s website.
“It is clear Tony has made remarks that have upset people,” Svanberg added.

Hayward spent about seven hours on Capitol Hill Thursday getting grilled by lawmakers about the company’s massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 60 days ago and its response to it. Tens of millions of gallons of crude have spilled into the Gulf, and the underwater gusher is still not completely contained.
The disaster has killed wildlife, closed fishing grounds, fouled beaches and disrupted livelihoods for people in the Gulf states, many of whom were still trying to rebound from the effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Prior to the statement Svanberg’s interview on SkyTV, investors and analysts said Hayward may cling on in his job while Svanberg looked less secure.
