Terrence Howard To Play Nelson Mandela Opposite J. Hud

Terrence Howard has been tapped to play opposite Jennifer Hudson as South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela in the movie titled ‘‘Winnie.’ The Academy Award winning ‘Dreamgirls’ star was previously announced in the lead role of Winnie Mandela.

The film will be directed by Darrell J. Roodt, from a script based on the Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob biography ‘Winnie Mandela:A Life,’ Variety reported.

Howard is the most recent actor to play the South African leader: Morgan Freemanreceived an Oscar nomination earlier this year for playing Mandela in Clint Eastwood‘s 2009 rugby film ‘Invictus’; Danny Glover played the politician in the 1987 TV movie ‘Mandela.’
The ‘Hustle & Flow’ actor was last seen in the action film, ‘Fighting,’ and played the role of Jim Rhodes/ War Machine in ‘Iron Man’ before being replaced by Don Cheadle. His next big role is in the Tuskegee Airmen film ‘Red Tails,’ which is being produced by George Lucas.
