The ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards will honor the late rap legend Notorious B.I.G with a founders award later this month, reports Billboard.

The performing rights organization said Thursday that the rapper [who was born Christopher Wallace in New York City and killed in 1997] will receive its ASCAP Founders Award on June 22 at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. It will be its 30th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, his children, and his widow, R&B singer Faith Evans [ who released a duet album with Biggie called the “King And I”] will accept the award on his behalf…
“Biggie was a legend in his own time and his legacy lives on through his music,” said ASCAP President Paul Williams. “Like all songwriters, he was a master storyteller, but it was the realism in his rhymes that captured so many.”
The award announcement for the “One More Chance” and “Mo Money Mo Problems” legend — which follows the 20th anniversary of his death — coincides with news about the rapper’s and Evans’ 20-year-old son Christopher Jordan Wallace releasing his debut album, reports the New York Daily News.
