Eastern Michigan U Doubles Reward In Racist Graffiti Incident
Eastern Michigan University Doubles Reward After More Racist Graffiti
Another racist message was discovered spray-painted on a wall at Eastern Michigan University, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The graffiti, found Monday on the exterior wall of a building on the Ypsilanti campus, is the third reported incident this semester. A university spokesman stated that the message said, “Leave (N-word),” the newspaper reported.
“… I am personally angered and saddened, and want to convey my strong sense of resolve in finding out who is behind these incidents and in continuing to come together as a campus community to confront hate and racism, and promote an environment of mutual understanding and inclusion.” the university’s president, Jim Smith, said in an email to the campus community.
The police are investigating the incident, and the university said it doubled its reward money to $10,000.
In an earlier incident this semester, someone spray-painted the letters “KKK” and “Leave N***ers” on a campus wall.
Smith added that these incidents “run counter” to the university’s mission and values.
