Police were called to the scene just before 5 a.m. on Thursday, and found the body near the Charles Allen entrance, WNEM reports. The man’s identity has not been released, and an autopsy has not been performed, according to The Atlanta Constitutional Journal.
The Journal writes Mayor Kasim Reed referred the case to the FBI in response to social media outrage surrounding the incident.
Reed has asked for calm until the investigation is completed.
“Everything we have seen suggests that there was no foul play involved, but I want to state clearly and unequivocally that we will not prejudge the situation,” Reed said. “APD will share all evidence discovered in the course of the investigation. We ask for the public’s support and cooperation as we work to resolve this matter.”
