Prince Cremated, Friends Hold Private Funeral
Friends & Family Of Prince Say Goodbye In Private Ceremony
The death of Prince earlier this week still has the world reeling. Though many have paid their respects through tributes, public statements and social media, only a close few gathered to pay their respects to the beloved legend at the Paisley Park funeral Saturday.
Prince’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said the celebration of his life included his “most beloved” family, friends and musicians. She also confirmed that a larger musical celebration will be held at a future date.
From the New York Times:
“A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye,” Ms. Noel-Schure wrote in an email released on Saturday evening. “Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private.”
Though it isn’t known just how many attended the service, photos were captured of Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson and brother-in-law Maurice Phillips entering the grounds, as well as close friends Sheila E. and bassist Larry Graham.
The hundreds of fans who gathered outside of Prince’s Paisley Park estate during the funeral did not go home empty-handed – servicemen personally handed out small purple boxes containing a photo of Prince, along with with a T-shirt with his album “3121” inscribed on the front.
