Ohio Cop Placed On Leave After Mocking Suicide Of BLM Member
An Ohio police officer was placed on administrative leave this week after making insensitive comments about the death of a Black Lives Matter activist, ABC News reports.
Lee Cyr commented, “Love a happy ending” on a Facebook news post about the suicide of MarShawn McCarrel. The 23-year-old reportedly shot himself in front of the Ohio statehouse on Monday evening. McCarrel was an activist and leader in the Black Lives Matter movement. The Radio One award winner was also the founder of Pursuing Our Dreams, as well as a charity for the homeless called Feed The Streets.
The Fairborn Police Department says the comment was made while Cyr was off duty. City Police Chief Terry Barlow told reporters internal affairs investigators will look into the officer’s actions to determine whether he violated the department’s social media policy.
