The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl creator Issa Rae is headed to HBO with her new comedy, Insecure.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network has given the green light for the actress’ latest project. Insecure stars two best friends dealing with their successful work lives, but mishandling battles with love.
Rae will star as Issa Dee opposite Yvonne Orji (Love That Girl!), who plays her best friend, Molly. Rae’s on-screen boyfriend is Lawrence, a man who just can’t seem to get his life together (portrayed by Jay Ellis from BET’s The Game).
Lisa Joyce (Boardwalk Empire) stars as Freida, Issa’s co-worker at an educational non-profit.
Larry Wilmore, The Nightly Show host co-wrote the pilot with the actress. He will serve as a consultant on the half-hour series while Prentice Penny (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) has been tapped as the showrunner.
Penny and Rae celebrated their new endeavors on social media. Insecure has been in development at HBO since 2013.

Rae has drawn millions of views to her YouTube channel for her hit web show The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Other successful shows created on the platform include FIRST, The Choir and FLY GUYS.
Rae’s next YouTube series, Get Your Life starring comedian Amanda Seales, will air on the platform on Oct. 21.
