Dr. Cornel West: Once You Break The Back Of Fear, It’s A New Day For Oppressed People
Roland Martin spoke with actor Harry Lennix and Dr. Cornel West during the Justice or Else rally held in Washington D.C. this weekend.
During their discussion, Dr. West discussed Min. Louis Farrakhan’s remarks about the young people of Ferguson breaking the back of fear “in the face of the police, in the face of the most powerful government and police force in the world.”
“Once you break the back of fear, it’s a new day for oppressed people,” said West. “And for Black people, when we break the back of fear it’s a new day for us, and that to me is a spiritual point and a moral point.”
West added, “How do we do it, how much money, power, status and position – if you’re still scared and intimidated and afraid, you’re not going to tell the truth and bear witness to justice.”
