Chicago Father Labeled Hero After Subduing Armed Man On Megabus

Kenneth Smith wants everyone to know he isn’t a hero, but since tackling an armed passenger on a Megabus, many people believe otherwise.

The 28-year-old was on the Chicago bus heading to Minneapolis to see his 6-year-old son when he heard a gunshot from the back of the bus, according to the Huffington Post. After the gunman fired a shot in the bathroom, he headed to the front of the bus, harassed the driver, and allegedly tried to take control of the steering wheel.

Smith went into action, demanding the man go back to his seat. The suspect left, but returned a short while later with his gun.

“He came back downstairs, he was grabbing at his hip, I had already seen that and I told him he was getting too close,” Smith told WMAQ-TV. “As he kept coming that’s when I rushed him, I choked him, he fell to the floor, the clip came out of the gun and that’s when I saw it so I pulled it out, gave it to my cousin and I held him down until the police arrived.”

The bus stopped in Des Plaines Oasis, where the gunman was arrested. With no one injured in the incident, passengers are labeling the humble father a hero.
