Chicago Grandmother Kills Infant With Power Saw For Crying
A Chicago family is in mourning after an infant was killed by her grandmother with a power saw on Monday, CNN reports.
The child, believed to be between 7 and 9-months-old, was killed by her 52-year-old grandmother on Monday morning around 9:30 a.m. in the city’s Little Village area. Manuela Rodriguez reportedly slit the throat of baby Rose Herrera when the child wouldn’t stop crying. Rodriguez was reportedly found trying to kill herself after the incident. Neighbors told the police the grandmother lived with two of her adult daughters. Both daughters have one child each.
Rodriguez was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday after the autopsy was released, says CNN:
An autopsy Tuesday found that the baby died of blunt force injuries to the head, with suffocation from a sock being placed in her mouth a contributing factor, WLS reported.
“I can’t believe this,” Raul Chavez, a neighbor, told the local broadcaster. “I knew them. I knew them real good. I knew them because we would help out each other.”
Although Rodriguez suffered self-inflicted injures, she is expected to be in court today.
