Did You Know: Popular Video Game Set In American Slavery?

Video game “Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation” tells the story of Aveline de Grandpré, a Creole who is the daughter of a French merchant and a black slave in 18th-century New Orleans. In a reimagined history, somewhat like Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, the character goes on thrilling adventures in the game. Aveline incites slave riots, fights an overseer, and switches back and forth between slave and “lady” personas.

Jill Murray, one of the creators of the game, and gaming writer Evan Narcisse joined Roland Martin on “NewsOne Now” Tuesday to discuss “Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation” and black characters in video games.
