In a discussion with “NewsOne Now,” Jeffrey K. Lyles says that photoshopping happens to everyone, including actress Jennifer Lawrence, so it is no surprise that Nyong’o’s complexion was lightened. Blogger Eben Gregory disagrees, “I think what’s going on is there is starting to be an awakening and Black folks are starting to say, ‘Listen, you cannot continue to do this.’ We’ve got to continue to bring attention when these incidents happen and let the powers that be know that this is not acceptable, and more importantly, you do not have to do this.”
