Ohio Secretary of State Under Fire For Voter Suppression
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has again come under fire only a few hours into Election Day. After losing thousands of voter registration records, the Republican official is in the spotlight again.
Ohio strictly uses electronic voting booths. According to Mashable.com Husted ordered the installation of a software “patch” in almost half of the state’s 88 counties. It’s unclear what the purpose of the mysterious software is, but what has been confirmed is whatever Husted has installed hasn’t been tested or certified.
Reports allege the Secretary of State’s office considers it a “reporting tool.”
The 11th-hour decision has already been contested in court by an opposing Ohio politician who filled an emergency injunction.
Ohio — which boasts 20 Electoral College votes — will likely decide the fate of the 2012 election and has been under scrutiny because of allegations of voter suppression.
