Did Paterno Turn A Blind Eye To Racism At Penn State?

In 2000, several African American Penn State football players received hate mail including racial slurs and death threats.

At the time, coach Paterno met with the Penn State Black Caucus student group but said he did not have the power to intervene.

The Grio reports:

Wolf went on to say that the letters said something along the lines of “your black ni**er boy can’t win a football game….this is a white school and a white state and a white country and we don’t need you here unless you’re winning football games.”

“And he (Paterno) said in that meeting that he would never do anything to put the university in a bad light. So then we said, ‘Then you are choosing the university over student lives.'”
