“The Bachelor” Franchise’s Unofficial Ban On Minorities
If you’ve ever tuned into ABC’s show, The Bachelor, you have to wonder why in 16 seasons there hasn’t been one Black man featured as the main star — the bachelor.
With the recent announcement that the last edition’s runner up will now be the Bachelor, Zerlina Maxwell of TheGrio wonders if there will ever be a change.
It’s not only the bachelors that are white but the majority of contestants competing for the bachelor’s heart are also white. This then becomes a repeated cycle because the runner up of one show almost always becomes the new Bachelor or Bachelorette in the next season of the related show.
