Is He Crazy? UCLA Student Joins Libyan Rebel For “Vacation”
Chris Jeon, a math major at UCLA decided to join the Libyan rebels for the summer break. He bought a one way flight for $800 to Cairo and traveled to Libya from there.
Jeon, an American Asian who wears a bright blue Lakers jersey, quickly became accepted by the rebels and even became a mascot for them.
The New York Daily News reports:
“I haven’t spent a dollar in weeks,” Jeon said, saying he’s being housed and fed by random revolutionaries.
The rebels gave him a shotgun to carry and an honorary Libyan name: Ahmed El Maghrabi Saidi Barga.
Every time he said it, the rebels around him roared in approval.
Jeon said the batteries for his camera and phone have both died, but “I have great footage.”
