Born To Shine! Time Warner Cable Names Four Young Black Talk Show Hosts
Time Warner Cable Creates New African-American Talk Show
Time Warner Cable has named four young and talented contest winners as hosts of a new African-American talk show titled “Born To Shine.”
In response to criticisms of the company’s lack of positive portrayals in their programming, they created a show that will attempt to “truly” showcase African-Americans in the community who are making significant contributions in entertainment, sports, and music industries.
Live casting calls began in March in Charlotte, New York City, Dallas, and Los Angeles. After months of searching, four winners were selected.
Time Warner Cable released the names today:
Kornelius Bascombe, 22, of Raleigh, NC, took fourth place in Oprah Winfrey Network’s 2010 “Your OWN Show” competition; Carmela King, 27, of Dallas, TX, is a Spanish teacher and performing arts aficionado; Isis McKenzie, 33, of Los Angeles, CA, is former Ms. Black California USA and owner of her own production company; and Ashlei Stevens, 28, of Brooklyn, NY, is host and producer of the online entertainment show DPVN.net.
