Former Homeless Student Starts Charity To Help Needy HS Kids
NEW YORK — Orayne Williams was once homeless in the streets of New York, however, with the help of donations from kind benefactors, he managed to get into college where he attained a 3.6 GPA.
After his first completed year at Manhattanville College in Westchester, Williams has started his own charity, Progressive People Movement, to aid needy high school students, like himself, get into college.
With the help of a dozen volunteers, the charity seeks to visit shelters and community centers to tutor and counsel kids.
The NY Daily News Reports:
Williams has raised $3,000 to help pay for transportation and materials, but he wants to raise 10 times that much .
Social workers and teachers who know Williams believe he can accomplish whatever he puts his mind to.
