A Year After Oil Spill, Gulf Coast Hopes For Busy Memorial Weekend
A year after the disaster caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Gulf Coast looks to see some tourism return to it’s shores for the historically busy Memorial Day. Many of those involved in the tourism industry along the Gulf Coast seem optimistic that this weekend will be better than the last.
A recent CNN article includes interviews with people who work in the tourism sector.
CNN reports:
Since the oil spill, British Petroleum has provided money to states to help promote tourism.
So far, the oil giant says it has given Florida $42 million, Mississippi $18 million, Alabama nearly $30 and Louisiana $25 million in tourism grants.
In addition to the 2010 oil spill, the area was also devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
