Huffington Post's Contributors Treated Like Slaves, Says Writer
Writer Says Huffington Post’s Contributors Treated Like Slaves
Los Angeles–An LA Times correspondent recently criticized they way Huffington Post compensates their writers and journalists. LA Times’ Tim Rutten believes that the Huffington Post’s editorial quality will decline after the AOL acquisition, because the writers are allegedly underpaid.
Rutten says their model can be compared to a “gallery rowed by slaves and commanded by pirates”, because the contributors typically are paid less than $50 for their articles.
Rutten:
Whatever the ultimate impact of AOL‘s $315-million acquisition of the Huffington Post on the new-media landscape, it’s already clear that the merger will push more journalists more deeply into the tragically expanding low-wage sector of our increasingly brutal economy.
