Halle Says Daughter Is Black Because Of “One-Drop Rule”
New York — Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry who is in the middle of a custody fight with her ex-husband Gabriel Aubry, recently told Ebony Magazine that her daughter is Black because of the “one-drop rule.”
“I feel like she’s black,” the actress told the magazine. “I’m black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory,” Berry said referencing the legacy of Jim Crow-era laws and customs that make American ‘Blackness’ a function of remote lineage rather than relative lightness or darkness of skin.”
