First Lady Says Tucson Service Showed ‘Who We Are’

WASHINGTON — First lady Michelle Obama says the spirit of the coming together behind victims of the Tucson shooting rampage lives on and serves as a reminder of “who we are as a nation.”

Obama tells ABC’s “Good Morning America” she feels “privileged” to take part in significant events that tug at the heart, even in grievous times like the aftermath of the Arizona massacre.

Obama says her presence in settings like Tucson “gives me energy to do the next thing. . It’s truly a privilege for me to be doing that kind of stuff.”

The first lady said the shooting episode showed “just how fragile life is.” Mrs. Obama says she’s been too busy to reflect on her evolving role, saying her natural style is “just to keep moving forward.”
