Prosecutor Wants Warrant For Kwame Kilpatrick
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office is claiming former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has violated his probation in a criminal case that led to jail time and his removal from office.
In a court filing released Friday, prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office says Kilpatrick made a late payment toward his $1 million restitution. Prosecutors said he also requested to travel outside the country for a trip that may not have been related to his new job near Dallas.
Worthy wants a Michigan judge to order the state Department of Corrections or Tarrant County, Texas, authorities to appear in court and explain why they haven’t sought a probation violation warrant against Kilpatrick.
A message seeking comment was left Friday for Kilpatrick’s lawyer, Michael Alan Schwartz.
